Abercrombie & Fitch is IBD Stock Of The Day, clearing key levels to flash a fresh buy signal after a mammoth run.
Donald Trump began his first of many criminal trials on Apr. 15. The risk of tying your wagon to such a volatile character when the former president’s freedom is on the line is not the kind of investment most investors are wise to make. Rather than own Trump Media & Technology Group (NASDAQ: DJT ), many Trump Media stock alternatives exist. Who are they? Based on DJT’s market capitalization of $3.4 billion, there are approximately 65 stocks in the Russell 2000 Index within $200 million above and below Trump Media’s market cap. With Trump Media stock falling like a stone — DJT is down 30% over the past week — I don’t think there’s any question that three of these 65 stocks are safer to buy for the long haul. I’ll select profitable stocks from three different sectors, something Trump Media will likely never be. Urban Outfitters (URBN) Source: Konmac / Shutterstock.com Urban Outfitters (NASDAQ: URBN ) has a market cap of $3.51 billion, slightly higher than DJT at $3.47 billion. URBN stock is up nearly 6% year-to-date and 39% over the past year.

Don’t count out small and mid-sized stocks. Plenty of them are strong performers that offer incredible returns to shareholders. Generally defined as any security that has a market capitalization between $250 million and $10 billion, the majority of these small and mid-sized stocks trade on the Russell 2000 index . The index was started in 1984 and is comprised of the 2,000 smallest U.S. stocks. There’s a lot for investors to consider when looking at the best Russell 2000 stocks to buy in April. Many analysts are growing increasingly bullish on small and mid-cap stocks. Tom Lee of market research firm Fundstrat says small-cap stocks are on the cusp of a turnaround and could rise as much as 50% this year , topping the 3,000 level for the first time. Stocks of companies with small market capitalizations are currently valued at 11 times earnings, which is much cheaper than the S&P 500’s average multiple of 21 times earnings. Lee notes that the valuation difference between small and large-cap stocks is similar today to 1999, when small-cap stocks began a 12-year stretch of outperformance.
Small-cap stocks are coming into their own. Although they’ve experienced a pretty poor run over the past few years, they began to outshine their larger brethren beginning late last year. Since the stock market’s low point in October, the Russell 2000 stocks index gained 28%, as compared to the S&P 500 ‘s 26% return. It’s even beating the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 ! That’s no small feat. The Russell 2000 stocks index doesn’t have the luxury of an Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA ) to tear up the stock charts. But as inflation has eased and the Federal Reserve hints at interest rate cuts to come, small-caps are shining. And history shows that over time small-cap stocks outperform bigger companies. So as small-cap stocks enter a new growth phase, now is the time to take a closer look at these three Russell 2000 stocks poised for big moves in April.
