If you have been following the news around Indian investing over the last few years, you may have come across a name that keeps appearing.
GIFT City.
It comes up in discussions about global investing, new funds launching, NRIs sending money back to India, and stock exchanges expanding their reach.
Most people nod along when they hear the name. But very few actually understand what it is.
GIFT City is not a new investment product. It is not a fund, a platform, or an app. It is a place.
A physical financial district in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, built to function as India’s own version of Singapore or Dubai. A financial centre designed to operate on international rules, on Indian soil.
In Chapter 2, we looked at the regulator behind this ecosystem, the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), and the broader idea of GIFT City as a financial hub.
Now we move one step further.
In this chapter, we will look at the specific investment routes that are available through GIFT City, and how each of them works when it comes to accessing global markets.
