Introducing GlobEd, a free and comprehensive guide to global investing for Indians

Over the last few years, we have seen a visible shift on Vested.

More Indians are opening US investment accounts. More people are building watchlists beyond India. More portfolios now have a mix of US stocks and ETFs alongside their India exposure.

And it makes sense.

India represents roughly 4% of global market capitalisation. The United States alone accounts for close to 50%. The opportunity set outside India is simply much larger across technology, healthcare, consumer brands, and global financial companies that do not exist in the same depth in India.

But what we also see, very consistently, is what happens when investors start thinking about global investing.

Investors start asking questions, and very practical ones.

How much should I allocate outside India? Should I start with ETFs or individual stocks? What do currency movements really do to returns? How are dividends taxed? What is the estate tax risk? What is allowed under LRS? What do I need to track and stay compliant?

These are the kinds of questions that almost everyone has when they first start thinking about global investing.

For years, there was no single place that brought these answers together and explained global investing comprehensively for Indian investors. Most people ended up piecing it together from different sources, each covering only a part of the picture.

GlobEd is our attempt to change this.

How GlobEd is structured

GlobEd (short for Global Education) is a free and comprehensive learning resource on global investing.

Over the last six years, much of our work at Vested has focused on improving access: helping Indian investors open global investing accounts, make fund transfers seamless, and participate in international markets with more investing options, and that work continues.

With GlobEd, we are now focusing on the other side of the journey: helping investors understand how global investing works and how to think about diversifying beyond India.

To begin with, we are launching with text-based modules. It was simply the fastest way to bring the material together and make it available. Over time, this will expand into videos, live webinars, and deeper discussions around industries and companies.

Now, the chapters themselves follow the way most investors usually approach global investing.

It begins with the idea of diversification and why investors must look beyond their domestic market in the first place. That naturally leads to making sense of global investing and how international markets fit into a portfolio.

From there, the focus moves to access. What are the ways Indian investors can invest globally? What routes exist? What policies and frameworks allow it?

Once that foundation is clear, the material moves into understanding the markets themselves: how the US market works, how stocks and ETFs are structured, and how companies are analysed.

After that comes the practical side of cross-border investing and how money actually moves across borders, what transfer mechanisms exist, and what the timelines and limits look like.

Over time, new sections will continue to expand this further. Topics such as taxation, understanding global funds, industry and company deep dives, and other aspects shaping global investing will be added.

The idea is to keep building this as a reference that grows alongside an investor’s global investing journey.
