A lot of success in the market goes unseen. Certain stocks tend to get written about ad nauseum while others get no attention at all. A stock like electric vehicle maker Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA ) is down 43% on the year, and journalists and analysts on TV discuss it around the clock. At the same time, not a single analyst covers undervalued stocks like tow truck operator Miller Industries (NYSE: MLR ) despite its share price being up nearly 50% in the past year. Stocks that are attached to celebrity CEOs and popular consumer products that hedge funds widely hold tend to dominate the business press. However, these stocks account for a small percentage of the overall market. In reality, many great stocks have quietly but steadily outperformed, driven higher by competent management, strong earnings and a competitive edge. Let’s uncover three hidden gems that are undervalued stocks poised for exponential growth. IES Holdings (IESC) Source: Shutterstock In a recent blog post , investor Eddy Elfenbein highlighted little-known stock, IES Holdings (NASDAQ: IESC ).
Wedgewood Partners, an investment management company, released its first quarter 2024 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the first quarter, Wedgewood Composite’s net return was 11.5% compared to the Standard & Poor’s 10.6%, Russell 1000 Growth Index’s 11.4%, and Russell 1000 Value Index’s 9.0% return for the same period. Copart, Inc. (CPRT) shares are up 14% so far this year. Incredibly, Big Money investors have been bidding up the vehicle auction stock for a while.
Several times over the past few years, I’ve referred to the 2-for-1 Index and the 2-for-1 newsletter, a monthly publication dedicated to stock split plays for 2024 and beyond. Neil Macneale III, a retired general contractor from Northern California, runs the newsletter and index. I’ve kept in contact with Macneale over the years because his portfolio has delivered consistent, above-average returns by buying and selling a single stock each month. Macneale has published the newsletter since Aug. 1996. Its annual return over 27.5 years through Dec. 31, 2023, is 12.07% , 248 basis points higher than the Wilshire 5000 Total Market Full Cap Total Return Index . Could you do better with other indexes? Sure, you could, but I would bet dollars to donuts that its risk-adjusted returns are some of the best you’ll find with so little work involved. In recent years, it’s been tougher to find quality companies splitting their stock—typically at least 2-for-1, hence the name. However, Macneale’s managed to cobble together a portfolio of 28-30 stocks despite the challenge.
InvestorPlace contributor Omor Ibne Ehsan recently recommended three stocks trading under $20 , which investors could turn $100 in each of these into $10,000 by 2026. I will double down on that premise, suggesting three stocks under $100 to buy that will make you $50,000 by 2026. With a maximum total investment of $300 ($100 per stock), generating a compound annual growth rate of 450% is virtually impossible. It’s more the idea that these three stocks have the revenue and profit potential to deliver supersized returns. Where should one look for such stocks? I’d look at holdings from ETFs focused on aggressive growth, such as the Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 (NASDAQ: QQQ ). Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 tracks the performance of the Nasdaq-100 Index , a collection of 100 non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq. Here are my three choices for stocks under $100 to buy. The Trade Desk (TTD) Source: Tada Images / Shutterstock.com The Trade Desk (NASDAQ: TTD ) is one of the smaller names in the Nasdaq 100, with a market capitalization of $42.68 billion.
