The end of the first quarter means another volatile earnings season. United States equities ended Q1 on a high note after an overall positive Q4 earning season. The two major U.S. stock market indices, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite , ended the first quarter up 10.2% and 9.1%, respectively. The small- to mid-cap index, the Russell 2000 , trailed behind, only having risen 4.8% for the first quarter. Trading in the second quarter has been less uplifting. Macroeconomic volatility has come back into view with analysts questioning how long interest rates will remain high. Moreover, the high trading multiples that U.S. equities have risen to have led to a lot of selling pressure in Q2. Companies that could find their share prices swinging are growth stocks . These are public companies that are expected to grow revenue and earnings significantly from period to period. If macroeconomic volatility casts doubt on the general business outlook, these three growth stocks could be landmines. The case for multibagger solar stocks is not particularly convincing at this point. One of the biggest reasons for the shift is California’s new net metering policies, which make it significantly less attractive for Californian residents to send surplus electricity back to the grid. Furthermore, you have the rising interest rates diminishing the value of future cash flows that most solar companies rely on. Most solar projects are financed over long periods ranging from a decade to sometimes over 25 years. If that wasn’t enough, material and labor costs have risen substantially in the past year, which made 2023 a forgettable year for the industry. Looking ahead, there are signs of a market bottom, which makes it attractive to pick up some of the top solar stocks at current prices. The need for renewable solar energy is undeniable, and the potential for added services, including energy storage and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, suggests robust growth potential. That said, here ar three multibagger solar stocks worth betting on now.
Solar stocks might boom in 2024 as the Federal Reserve considers reducing rates three times after hiking them 11 times in a year and a half. Additionally, with inflation decreasing, markets are bullish, but solar equities are not. While the S&P 500 is up 6%, the Invesco Solar ETF (NYSEARCA: TAN ) is down 23% this year, bucking the dovish Fed’s market optimism. However, the solar sector is growing steadily. Global photovoltaic installations rose in 2023, with China adding 260 GWdc . Global installations should rise in 2024. In 2023, residential and utility-scale solar installations set a record in the U.S. The U.S. recorded module import and energy storage system installation. Solar technology component and module imports have increased due to duties exemptions. These adoption rates show solar companies are cheap. We will examine three cheap solar companies with double- to triple-digit potential. The upside might be significantly bigger as the market grows from $82 billion in 2023 to $260 billion in 2031.
Amid escalating geopolitical flashpoints, a clear lesson is emerging for western economies, which may lead to a renaissance for alternative energy stocks . The world continues to run on hydrocarbons and that might not change in the foreseeable future. Still, potential disruptions force a discussion for backup plans. Currently, tensions in the Middle East have resulted in two nations exchanging missile attacks. For now, both sides appear to want to cool the temperature. Nevertheless, a miscalculation could send the situation spiraling out of control. Combine this matter with the military conflict in Europe and oil supply chains – particularly to western nations – could be compromised. Granted, circumstances won’t change overnight. However, the flashpoints across multiple regions in the world gave as loud of a wake-up call as possible. With that, below are alternative energy stocks to consider. NextEra Energy (NEE) Source: IgorGolovniov/Shutterstock.com One of the top players among alternative energy stocks, NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE ) generates, transmits, distributes and sells electric power to retail and wholesale customers in North America.
